The 19th century was a time of great scientific discovery. From John Dalton publishing his atomic theory in 1808, to Charles Darwin publishing his theory of natural selection in 1859, this was a period during which many important scientific developments were made. One of the big names from this period was Thomas Edison, who amassed more than 1,000 patents during his lifetime. Perhaps his greatest invention, however, was the incandescent light bulb. With this, he was able to introduce electricity into people's homes and enter a whole new era of lighting. The electricity system he used, however, was limited in terms of its range. So when rival inventor Nikola Tesla proposed his potentially more powerful alternative, a feud quickly developed.
