Norway’s apology: A reckoning with forced assimilation

The Norwegian government has issued a formal apology to the country's minority groups and indigenous peoples for over a century of forced assimilation and ethnic cleansing practices. The nation's parliament expressed its formal apology in November 2024. The government's statement includes actions of redress, meaning measures that will be taken in recognition of the harm that the country has caused as part of its 'Norwegianization' campaigns.
