Ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah at risk after attacks in Lebanon
After just one day, the long-awaited ceasefire could already be under threat

On Wednesday, a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect, this after 14 months of fighting. However, just one day after the deal was brokered by France and the US, it is already under threat.
It has been reported by state media that at least two people in southern Lebanon have been wounded by Israeli fire. There are also reports of Israeli fire in three other parts of the country near the border. No further casualties have been reported. In response, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have claimed that vehicles arrived in areas in southern Lebanon that breached the conditions of the ceasefire. As such, Israel believes they had a right to open fire and actively enforce the agreement.
After the ceasefire was announced, warnings were put in place by both the Israeli and Lebanese militaries not to go to certain areas. Despite this, thousands of the 1.2 million residents who were displaced during the conflict began to return home. The IDF has said that their forces will withdraw gradually, but that they will strike should Hezbollah violate the terms of the deal.
