Police in South Korea have begun raiding the presidential office in Seoul following last week’s failed martial law declaration by President Yoon Suk Yeol. The nation remains in political upheaval as the liberal opposition Democratic Party plans a second impeachment attempt against Yoon, citing his actions as the cause of South Korea’s worst political crisis in decades. Yoon and his associates are under investigation for insurrection, with several facing travel restrictions.
During a parliamentary session, Shin Yong-hae, commissioner-general of the Korea Correctional Service, reported that correctional officials had intervened to prevent former defense minister Kim Yong-hyun from taking his own life and that his condition is now stable. Kim, who allegedly recommended martial law to Yoon, was taken into custody on Tuesday.
