May 6 marks the first anniversary of the coronation of King Charles III. Twelve months on, the British monarch has remained unexpectedly popular during his first year of reign. But Charles' tenure on the throne has not been without incident, with the specter of "abhorrent" colonial actions raising its ugly head during a state visit to Kenya and January's shock cancer diagnosis among the more negative news stories making world headlines.

On Sunday, May 5, a group of protesters gathered in Trafalgar Square to express their dissatisfaction with Charles and the monarchy in general. Around a hundred people gathered at the central London square along with a 15ft (4.5m) crowned dinosaur they called "Chuck the Rex." Protesters chanted the word "abdicate" over and over again in front of banners that read "Abolish the monarchy" and "Change the country for good.” Many carried yellow signs with the slogans "Down with the crown" and "Not my king." The protest was organized by an anti-monarchy campaign group named Republic, who explained that the giant dinosaur puppet represented the outdated concept of royalty as a relic of the past, something that should disappear into extinction to allow for a modern democracy. While polling suggests that Charles' popularity has increased slightly compared to last year, there has also been an increase in those who believe the UK should become a republic.

So, one year on, what are the highs and lows of King Charles III's reign so far? Click on to find out.
