Where does it come from? -

The method was coined by a user on Tumblr and became a viral TikTok sensation. The user struggled to complete cleaning tasks due to ADHD and found the junebug method helped.

They decided to share their hack with the world, as it helped them to fight the impulse not to clean at all, or to abadon the task completely.

Not for everyone -

However, the method might not be for everyone. Some people might find it frustrating or it might not work at all. But if you're struggling to get started, it might be worth giving it a try.

Anchor point -

The only hard and fast rule to the junebug method is to set an anchor point, aka anchor task, that you keep returning to.

This anchor task might take a lot longer to complete, as you give yourself the freedom to embrace the distractions that arise, but it's the only thing you "have to" get done.

Be specific -

In order for junebugging to work, you have to be specific about your anchor task. It's not enough to set it as "clean the kitchen."

The anchor task needs to be one job, i.e., wash the floor, sweep, clean the dishes, clean the bathtub, do laundry, iron clothes, etc.

This might be the most difficult part for some, which is why it's best to be specific and pick something manageable.

Pick your props, put on gloves, or suiting up to do the job might help to prompt you to begin. Cloth in one hand and cleaning product in the other, it's difficult not to start!

This is the tricky part. It's probably inevitable that you're going to get distracted by something else once you start, taking you off-piste.

Every time you return to your anchor point, you keep returning to your original task until it's complete, no matter how long it takes.

Make a list of anchor tasks you'd like to complete over the course of the week. It can be as simple as arranging bathroom items.

You might find yourself accomplishing more with the junebug method than you thought possible, or you might start 20 different tasks but only complete five. The anchor task is the only one that matters.

Try it out for a week and see if it makes a difference to how easy it is to get your home almost, if not completely, clean.
