Meet the happiest animal in the world
This animal always has a grin on its face!
LIFESTYLE Quokka
Native to Wadjemup, also known as Rottnest Island, the quokka (or kwoka in Noongar) has achieved iconic status for an unusual reason—they never stop smiling! Dubbed the happiest animals in the world due to their permanent grin, quokkas are always ready for a photo shoot and have a naturally friendly, curious temperament with little fear of humans. However, they are still wild animals and may bite if they sense danger.
Unfortunately, quokkas are classified as a vulnerable species. As southwest Western Australia becomes drier due to climate change, their habitat is increasingly threatened.
