The US Open tennis tournament of 2022 was a hotbed for celebrity mix-ups! Singer Dionne Warwick was confused with fellow superstar legendary Gladys Knight. A commentator mentioned Knight's name as the camera panned to focus on Warwick watching Serena Williams' match against Anett Kontaveit. She later explained, "Too bad I was initially looking at the court (where Auntie Gladys was in the stands) and not our program monitor that showed Ms. Dionne..."

As usual, both ladies handled the mix-up with humor and grace. Warwick became the unexpected Queen of Twitter when she joined in 2020, and followed this incident up with one of her patented tweets: "Hi, I’m Gladys Knight… and instead of taking that midnight train to Georgia, I won’t walk on by but will say a little prayer for you," she joked, mixing up lyrics from famous songs performed by herself and Knight. Knight also tweeted a response, saying, "Dionne and I have been sisters for a long time and I hope she is as honored to be mistaken for me as I would be her. I’m sure it was an honest mistake. It was a blessing to be in the house to see Serena’s greatness."

Laverne Cox and Beyoncé don't look alike, but the actress received the compliment of her dreams when several people and broadcasts mistook her for the singer at the US Open. Cox was cheering on Serena Williams on August 29 from the stands at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City, wearing a black top, brown leather pants, hoop earrings, and, crucially, a face mask.
